ChocoFlop

A very impressive but easy image editor that has awesome filters and effects.

ChocoFlop allows you to edit your photos or design stuff using Apple's CoreImage technology. It takes advantage of the power of your graphics card (GPU).

Because of this it can show real-time previews of filters and keep modifications live for as long as you want.
This means that you can add for example a blur filter on your text and keep everything dynamic. You can change the strength of your blur filter at any time or edit your text, the blur will apply on the updated text. That's called non-destructive image edition and it really saves you a lot of time.

Once you have your image open you have access to the clone tool to find the dust spots, levels, saturation, curves, sharpening, contrast and brightness, etc. It’s all there. Maybe not as sophisiticated as Photoshop, but close and at $59 a good price.

Seashore

Seashore is an open source image editor for Mac OS X's Cocoa framework. It features gradients, textures and anti-aliasing for both text and brush strokes. It supports multiple layers and alpha channel editing. It is based around the GIMP's technology and uses the same native file format.

However, unlike the GIMP, Seashore only aims to serve the basic image editing needs of most computer users, not to provide a replacement for professional image editing products.

Memtest OS X

Memtest OSX is simply the best ram-testing utility for the Mac with the ability to find intermittent memory problems that are the frequent cause of unexplained crashes and freezes. Memtest can identify random memory problems that commercially available utilities miss including defective motherboard CPU cache memory.

How to uninstall Adobe Flash Player

Now to uninstall Adobe Flash Player due to its progressive development, you can now only remove the player by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller.
When using it just remember to close your internet browser first.

FairGame

FairGame will convert the songs you bought on the iTunes Store to an unprotected format (using iTunes default encoder) and keep all the original metadata, lyrics and artwork. It takes 2 min. 42 sec. to convert a 4 min. song to AAC on a MacBook Pro 2.16GHz.

What you MUST DO (only once) to get FairGame to work:
Enable Access for assistive devices in the Universal Access & system preference
select; Place clip in Movie Timeline in the Import & preference of iMovie HD

Then you can simply: select some songs in iTunes click on the Process button & then don't touch anything and wait until it's done...
(FairGame is scripting iMovie's interface to process the songs, don’t interfere)

MacTheRipper: A DVD extractor for Mac OS X

MacTheRipper is a free DVD ripper (extractor) for Mac OS X. It can extract commercial DVD movies to your hard drive, minus all the copy protections and region controls put in place by DVD publishers. You can then use various tools to burn the movie back to DVD-R for use in DVD players, or convert the movie to different formats for playback with a variety of devices.

Some Basic Mac OS X Tips and Tricks

Forcefully Eject a CD/DVD

You will need to use this trick when you accidentally inserted a blank disc or ejected while the disc was being used and the disc icon disappeared from desktop.

Just Go to Applications → Utilities → Disk Utilities, select your CD/DVD and click Eject or restart your Mac and while it reboots, hold down the mouse or mousepad button.

Setup a Proxy for your Network

Open System Preferences and look for Network under Internet & Network. Then select your network device from the menu (AirPort for WiFi, Ethernet for LAN) and click Advanced button.

In the menu that splashes in, select the Proxies tab, define your settings and hit OK.

Completely Quit an Application

In a Mac, applications don’t completely shut down by clicking the [x] button like they do in Windows. They just move out of focus but keep running in the background.

To completely shut down or quit an application, select it and use the combination: Command + Q. If the application is stuck or is not responding, make use of the Applications → Utilities → Activity Monitor.

Install an Application

Download the Apple Disk Image (.dmg) of the application to be installed and extract to your desktop (this will make a virtual drive). Open the virtual drive and copy the application file and paste into the Applications folder.

To cleanup, simply move the virtual drive and the downloaded .dmg file to the trash bin.

Take an Instant Screenshot

The easiest and fastest way is to use a combination of the keys: Command + Shift + 3.

There is also a utility called Grab which can be found in Applications → Utilities → Grab. It even allows you to set a timer or take screenshot of a select portion of your screen.

View all Open Applications and Folders

Suppose you opened a dozen applications and folders and do not know how to switch to a particular one instantly, don’t worry!

Just press F3 command key on the keyboard and it will show you a grid view of all open applications and folders, then you can switch to any application or folder by clicking on it.

When the CPU is taxed, Apple’s controls take over and the fan speed increases according to Apple guidelines, but when it is running normally, you can set the fan at a faster speed to keep your system cool. A great little program that is very unobtrusive, easy to turn on and off at will.

TrueCrypt is a free and open source encryption tool, for both Windows,Mac and Linux. It lets you create a password protected encrypted disk, either in a standalone file or on an entire physical partition or volume on a device; which is then mounted, read and written to just like a regular drive. Any file and any device that can be mounted as a filesystem can be used, from regular hard disks to USB flash drives.

I use TrueCrypt to protect my sensitive files on usb flash drives and hard drives, I highly recommend it to protect your data.

BurnX Free makes it very easy to burn CD's with multiple sessions in an hybrid format for compatibility with other platforms.
