Jokosher integrates well with the Gstreamer plugin. Anything that is supported by Gstreamer is available in Jokosher as well. You can import/export your music/podcast to mp3, wav, flac, ogg and anything else supported by Gstreamer.

When adding effects to your music, you may want to install the additional plugins to increase the number of choices.

Marvell Introduces Plug Computing with SheevaPlug

Marvell’s SheevaPlug looks like night light, but it is a what they are calling a plug computer — an embedded computer that plugs into the wall socket and is capable of running network-based services that normally require a dedicated personal computer. The enclosure is designed to plug directly into a regular US wall socket and draws less than one tenth of the power of a typical PC being used as a home server, which should lower your monthly electric bill if you run a PC at home 24/7. Warzone 2100
Warzone 2100 was originally released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation. In 2004, the source code and most of its data was released under the GNU General Public License, thereby making it a free game. Warzone 2100 can now be played in Linux and is available in most distro package repositories. The game is developed by Pumpkin Studios and published by Eidos Interactive.

Although Warzone 2100 is comparable to Earth 2150 in many significant respects, it does contain certain unique aspects that clearly differentiate the two, including various radar technologies, a greater focus on artillery and counter-battery technology, more frequent in-game cinematic updates as gameplay progresses, and customizable vehicle designs.

Spring

Spring (formerly known as TA Spring or Total Annihilation: Spring), is a full 3D free/open source RTS game engine originally created by the Swedish Yankspankers, intended to bring the gameplay experience of Total Annihilation (TA) into three dimensions. Games are played using one of a number of mods. The standard installation comes with a range of prepackaged mods, some which requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play them, and other Free Content mods which may be used free of charge without owning a copy of TA. Spring’s core game engine is licensed under the GNU GPL.

The game is mainly focused around multiplayer games over the Internet or a LAN connection. There are currently a few single player missions, built on the basic support for this through Lua scripting. There are also many skirmish AIs, allowing for offline play or extra players in an online game.

SystemRescueCd is a Linux system on a bootable CD-ROM for repairing your system and recovering your data after a crash. It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk. It contains a lot of system utilities (parted, partimage, fstools, ...) and basic tools (editors, midnight commander, network tools). It is very easy to use: just boot the CDROM. Any file and any device that can be mounted as a filesystem can be used, from regular hard disks to USB flash drives.

I use TrueCrypt to protect my sensitive files on usb flash drives and hard drives, I highly recommend it to protect your data.

Ubuntu backup Utility Remastersys

Remastersys is a tool that can be used to do 2 things with an existing Klikit or Ubuntu or derivative installation.

1. It can make a full system backup including personal data to a live cd or dvd that you can use anywhere and install.
2. It can make a distributable copy you can share with friends. This will not have any of your personal user data in it.


Just Paste the following into the sources.list:

deb http://www.remastersys.klikit-linux.com/repository remastersys/

in terminal give :

sudo apt-get update

and just install it

sudo apt-get install remastersys

after that you can find it in System - Administrator

you can make a full backup of your ubuntu in ISO and burn it!

if something goes wrong with you ubuntu you just install the dvd like the
original ubuntu distro! but with all your files.

LXDE (Suitable for old machines)

A fast, fast-booting, implementation of GNOME. The LXDE project is a lightweight Linux desktop for general use.
LXDE is a new project aimed to provide a new desktop environment which is lightweight and fast. It's not designed to be powerful and bloated, but to be usable and slim enough, and keep the resource usage low.
Different from other desktop environments, we don't tightly integrate every component. Instead, we tried to make all components independent, and each of them can be used independently with few dependencies.
Can run on a lowly Pentium II 266 MHz with 196MB or ram and 5400 rpm Hard drive.

LXDE

Recover Windows data with Linux

Knoppix is a Linux distribution that can run from a CD (i.e. it doesn’t require installation on your harddisk). It is also capable of understanding Windows file systems. To use it:
1. Download latest Knoppix CD .iso file (approx 700MB). Note - The DVD version is much larger.
2. Burn the .iso, for example using the free ImgBurn.
3. Boot the stricken machine from the Knoppix CD. You may need to change the first boot device to cd-rom in the BIOS if it's not already set. At start up press delete or whatever your motherboard uses to enter the BIOS.
4. Drag and drop data from the stricken machine to a USB harddisk or memory stick. Or copy to another machine using FTP from Knoppix. The Knoppix user interface is easy enough to use, even if you haven’t used Linux before.

Note: You don’t have to enter your Windows password to recover the files. This brings home how easy it is to get data off a password protected Windows machine, if you have physical access to the machine.

How To Have DVD Playback, Adobe Flash Plugin, MP3 In Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron In A Single Step

Ubuntu is a distro that’s well known for its user-friendliness and simplicity.
However, if tested out-of-the-box, Ubuntu is crippled on the multimedia front. This is because of copyright and patent restrictions that complicate distribution of proprietary codecs with Ubuntu, which prides itself as a totally free operating system.

Even though Ubuntu developers haven’t included proprietary codecs, they have made it extremely easy for you to install them later through the Medibuntu repository. You can get encrypted DVD playback, Adobe Flash plugin and non-native media files (Windows media, Apple QuickTime, Real, MP3) support by using this single command.


Take a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and enter the following command:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 w32codecs

The above command downloads all the required codecs from the Medibuntu repositories and makes your Ubuntu box multimedia ready.

Note: The above command is for 32 bit processors. AMD 64bit users, replace the ending word w32codecs with w64codecs. PPC users replace w32codecs with ppc-codecs.

Once you have run the above command, you can easily install third party applications like Skype, Google Earth and Acrobat Reader.
